Road Improvement in Central Jakarta Accelerated

Central Jakarta Administration speeds up the sidewalk improvement along protocol roads. The effort is taken since many pedestrian uses the sidewalk on protocol road.

"The improvement will be done in stages, but our priority is protocol road," said Irfanudin, Head Section of Maintenance for Central Jakarta Sub-dept. of Bina MArga, Fridau (8/14).

According to him, the prioritized protocol roads are Jalan Proklamasi, Jalan Imam Bonjol, and Jalan Asia Afrika. The improvement starts from replacing paving block, adding kanstine or road divider with sidewalk.

"We use 21x21 cm paving block for sidewalk with 6 cm of thickness," he added.

According to him, the damaged of sidewalk could be caused by many factors, such as old paving block or used as parking lot and street vendors. "Motorcycle also often passing on the sidewalk," he continued.

He hoped the residents will maintain the sidewalk well for the sake of their own comfort. "Motorcycle, please use your own lane. Sidewalk is purposed for pedestrian," he disclosed.
