51 Buildings of Street Vendors Ex Shelter in C. Jakarta Demolished

Tens of buildings in two locations of street vendors temporary shelter, JP 19 and 20, at Jalan Pembangunan I, RW 01, Petojo Utara, Gambir, Central Jakarta, demolished.

"There are 23 buildings in JP 19 and 26 buildings in JP 20. All of them were built permanently and their operational permit has been revoked since 2 years ago. So now we're demolishing them all," said Gambir Sub-District Head, Fauzi, when he led the demolishment, Monday (9/28).

According to him, before being demolished, the vendors have been socialized. "Because the permit is already expired, and it cannot be extended anymore," he told.

He expressed, after that the street vendors will be relocated to the closest market. "We have offered them to be relocated to Petojo Ilir. But it's up to them, We're just as mediator to the market side," he uttered.

In the demolishment, as many as 75 joint personnel deployed consisting of Satpol PP, Cleanliness Sub-Department, Central Jakarta Water Management Sub-Department, and Infrastructure and Public Facilities Handling (PPSU) officers. A Sundanese food vendor, Heri (50) claimed he could do nothing seeing his stall demolished. He hoped government would rebuild the stall on the location even just using tent. "I hope they would build our own stalls," he expressed.
