Basuki: Jakarta Gears Up to Face Flood

Jakarta Governor, Basuki “Ahok” T Purnama revealed the city administration has alerted disaster alert villages (KBS) in the capital to face rainy season and flood.

According to Ahok, Bukit Duri and Bidara Cina areas will be free from flooding if the sheet pile and river normalization and waterway construction are finished.

“If Kampung Pulo has sterilized, we are safe. For instance, Bukit Duri is certainly flooded if there is floodwater, likewise with Kampung Melayu. But it would not happen if we had waterway,” he asserted.

Ahok claimed, has drafted a 1.2-kilometer-long Ciliwung waterway until East Flood Canal (KBT). But it is hard to be realized due to problem with many people.

   

“This is the fact of Jakarta. You can see, the rain takes in Bogor has raised water level in Katulampa up to alert-I,” he expressed.

To solve flood, he added the entire rivers must be equipped with sheet pile and be normalized. Thus whole residential exist along riverbank must be demolished to ease normalization work.

“The solution is all rivers must be installed by sheet pile,” he finished.
