Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama asserted that flood in Pasar Induk, Kramat Jati,East Jakarta was not caused by the dam burst.
He (the operator) opened the gate. We told that the water can't get through the dam
"It's not because the dam burst, we've checked it," he said at City Hall, Monday (11/16).
According to him, based on observation on the field, the flood happened in Kramat Jati was because Kali Baru Sluice Gate in Hek area, East Jakarta opened. It had to be done for avoiding the dam burst around Kramat Jati Market.
Trash Filter at Hek Sluice Gate will Be Widened"He (the operator) opened the gate. We told that the water can't get through the dam. If it does so, the dam would burst, so the gate better be opened," he told.
He acknowledged, the way taken by the government is not effective yet to anticipate transferred flood (banjir kiriman) from Katulampa Dam, Bogor, West Java. The most effective way to anticipate it is by normalizing channels and rivers.
"We have no choice except normalization," he disclosed.
