2,700 Prisoners to Cast Their Votes

As many as 16.4 million people out of 22.5 million Jakarta residents have been registered in the final voters list (DPT) to cast their votes in legislative election on upcoming April 9. From that amount, 2,700 are prisoners.

“Yes, they (prisoners) are still Indonesian citizens, so they can still cast their votes,” stated City Police Public Relations Division Chief Sr. Comr. Rikwanto after personnel’s attendance check in polling stations (TPS), Monday (4/7).

According to Rikwanto, despite those prisoners currently undergoing a process of punishment, they still have the right to vote in the 2014 general election. But indeed, there is a special technical.

“We won’t set up the TPS inside the prison. But, there will be TPS officers to do jemput bola (officers to take the initiative to visit prisoners) in each prison,” he told.

Regarding security simulation exhibited in the attendance check today, Rikwanto stressed that the City Police are ready to face any circumstances.

“We have mapped crime-prone areas. The security will be adjusted with escalation of order disturbances and security that happens in region and TPS,” he finished.
