Jakarta Vice Government, Basuki T Purnama urged the street vendors in Rumput Market, Manggarai, to step back 1,5 meter from their usual stalls.
I have instructed to the mayor to arrange the street vendors in Rumput Market to step back 1,5 meter just like the street vendors in Senayan so that the public can use the pedestrian
It is done to give the right for the public of the arranged sidewalk that is dominated by the street vendors. This appeal is also applied to the ornamental plants sellers in Senayan, Central Jakarta.
“I have instructed to the mayor to arrange the street vendors in Rumput Market to step back 1,5 meter just like the street vendors in Senayan so that the public can use the pedestrian,” said Basuki, Tuesday (4/8).
He said that the street vendors in Rumput Market will be relocated to the integrated market in the flat housing. “PD Pasar Jaya will build an integrated market below the flat. We still wait for the permission of Public Housing Department and we hope that the street vendors can trade in there,” he stated.
As known, Rumput Market is located between Karet and Manggarai that is one of the congestion points in the city due to wild parking and high volume of vehicles passing by in that area. In addition to that, the pedestrians who walk on the roadside because of wild stalls of the street vendors also contribute to the congestion.
