Slums in East Jakarta will Be Improved

To create a healthy and livable environment, East Jakarta Housing and Government’s Building Sub-Department will monitor and study all the slum areas that will be improved in row village program. Related to that, Head of East Jakarta Housing and Government’s Building Sub-Department, Yuli Hartono, said that his party is still collecting data of slums to be transformed into row villages.
Previously, many residents refused to participate in this program. But after seeing their neighbor’s house nice, they want their house to be improved as well
“This year, we will continuously improve the slums in stages. Until now, from the data we received, in East Jakarta there are 1,100 houses to be improved,” she stated, Thursday (4/10).
200 New Houses of Row Villages Built This YearAccording to Hartono, at first this program was refused by the local residents. But after seeing the successful row village program that is satisfying, they started to register their settlement to be improved.

Previously, many residents refused to participate in this program. But after seeing their neighbor’s house nice, they want their house to be improved as well ,” she explained.In East Jakarta, row village program has been applied in four sub-districts. Those locations are RW 01, Klender Urban-Village, Duren Sawit Sub-District (393 houses); RW 015, Pisangan Timur Urban Village, Pulo Gadung Sub-District (291 houses); RW 02, Cipinang Besar Selatan Urban Village, Jatinegara Sub-District (97 houses); and RW 05, Jatinegara Urban Village, Cakung Sub-District (49 houses).
For this year, Jakarta Provincial Government will build row village in 13 RWs in East Jakarta. Those RWs are located in Matraman, Cakung, Duren Sawit, Jatinegara, Kramat Jati, and Cipayung, where 1,400-1,600 houses to be improved.
Tami (42), a resident of Cipinang Besar Selatan Urban Village, Jatinegara Sub-District, admitted that at first she refused row village program because she thought the program was an eviction for the residents. But after seeing her neighbor’s house after being improved, she now intends to register her house to also be improved in row village program.
“I will register in the next row village program. I hope such construction continues to be done since there are still many houses in improper condition,” she expressed.
