Modern Stored Must Use Eco-Friendly Plastic Bag

Jakarta Provincial Government already has the Bylaw No. 3/2013 on Waste Management. The bylaw regulate every modern store to use eco-friendly plastic bag. If they ignore it, the will be sanctioned with fine Rp 5-Rp 25 million

According to Basuki T. Purnama, Jakarta Governor, socialization will be conducted within three months to retail entrepreneurs over such bylaw. It relates to circulation letter on pay for plastic bag from Ministry of Environment.

"Modern stores have to use eco-friendly plastic. If not, they have to pay sanction of Rp 5-Rp25 million," he asserted, at City Hall, Tuesday (2/23).

During socialization, the sanction is not applied yet but in the days after its implementation. In this matter, the Regional Environment Management Agency (BPLHD) and Jakarta Cleanliness Dept will do monitoring.

"I'll ask BPLHD to do raid in three months. If there is found violation, we will process the actor," he stressed.

Basuki added, by using such plastic worth Rp 800-Rp 1,000, the store will charge consumers for plastic bags.

"Due to expensive, they won't use it for free," he exclaimed.

While this policy will be applied in modern store first.
