TransJakarta Operational System Management Needs to Be Reset

TransJakarta bus operational system management implemented by PT TransJakarta is assessed as the main cause of many accidents happened involving that special bus. Therefore, system reset is needed, especially about vehicle speed and bus maintenance.

Such a thing is conveyed by urban observer from Trisakti University, Nirwono Yoga, who said that although TransJakarta bus is a mass transportation, it does not mean have to be fast in terms of vehicle speed.

The cause (of accidents involving TransJakarta buses) is the bus’ speed and maintenance. Although its type is fast transportation, it does not mean the vehicle has to run fast. TransJakarta bus is supposed to be running 40 kilometers per hour top. Above that, it is too fast,” he uttered, Friday (4/25).

According to Yoga, maintenance is the important factor of accident occurrence, because it can prevent or minimize accident. Maintenance includes feasibility of bus brake pedal, gas pedal, etc. As for corridors with contact points and turn arounds, TransJakarta bus must be equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) to monitor distance between buses and an adequate departure system to make the bus running stable.

“Maintenance is important, because rhe components can be controlled, which parts to be replaced. After that, GPS has to be installed to monitor distance between buses. Departure time must also be arranged, so the buses would not too close or to far,” he stated.

If the GPS system cannot be installed yet, continued Yoga, all bus crew such as, driver, secondary driver, and the others have to be gradually taught about technical matters as accident preventive action. Thus, it should be no more reason that accident happened because of brake failure.

“The bus crew have to be educated, especially to drivers, about how to drive safely. They must also report to the management if there was discomfort on bus components. So, no more reason of brake failure,” he asserted.

Before such a thing is realized, added Yoga, related institutions, either PT TransJakarta, Transportation Department, as well as the police, must be able to guard TransJakarta bus lanes which have contact points and turn arounds.
