Shoe Store at Pasar Rumput Market Burned

Fire incident occurred at Pasar Rumput on Jalan Sultan Agung, Pasar Manggis, Urban Village, Setiabudi, South Jakarta on Monday (4/28) at around 5:15 AM. The fire burned a shoe store belongs to Buyung on Block A second floor. “It happened at around 5:15 AM. The fire was not seen but thick smoke just soared to the sky," said Edo Warsi, Chief of Rumput Market Management, Monday (4/28).

The fire occurred when the store was still closed. “Most of the stores have not opened at all because it's still early. I see electric wires had burned and there was an explosion," he said.

Seeing that incident, he and security guards directly turned off the main electricity substation in that market. “I immediately turned off the electricity from the substation market in order to avoid the spreading. While security officers directly contacted firefighters," he told.

Firefighters then mobilized 33 fire brigade vehicles to the scene. The officers immediately localized the hotspots.

“We immediately localize hotspots due to stall is located in the middle position. We mobilized 33 car units to prevent fires just like at Pasar Senen yesterday," said Edi Sucipto, Head Section of South Jakarta Fire Department and Disaster Management Operations.

With officers’ alacrity, the fire did not spread to other stalls. “Thank God we can handle it quickly and prevent it from spreading. We can master it in 45 minutes later, and there are no casualties," he said.

However, the cause of the fire is still not known for sure. "But there are witnesses who saw the burning cables. Just let the police investigate it further," Sucipto completed.
