Poor electricity installation in traditional markets is regretted by many, especially after great fire burned Pasar Senen and Pasar Rumput. For that, Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asks State Electricity Company (PLN) to improve supervision.
Everything is okay now. There is no more negotiation with the traders for the renovation. If there was, it could be a step back. That’s why I instructed for the market renovation to be done immediately
“First of all, we need to see the market. Pasar Senen was built in 1974. You can see the wires there are old and strewn everywhere,” he said at City Hall, Monday (4/28).
According to Jokowi, Jakarta Provincial Government routinely renovates traditional markets every year. But since there are many traditional markets in Jakarta, the renovation is done in stages. Especially for Pasar Senen, its renovation should have done last year. But because of the traders’ request, the renovation will be carried out after Eid ul Fitr this year.
Temporary Shelter Prepared to Pasar Senen Peddlers Soon“Pasar Senen was supposed to be renovated last year. But because many traders requested it to be done after Eid ul Fitr, so I wait,” he told.
Due to this incident, Pasar Senen renovation will not wait after Eid ul Fitr. It will be conducted right after everything is ready.

That’s why I instructed for the market renovation to be done immediately ,” he stated. As known, more than 2,000 stalls in Pasar Senen were burned on Friday (4/25). The fire was so huge, it was extinguished 24 hours later. Then this morning, Pasar Rumput, Manggarai, South Jakarta, was also burned. Luckily, the fire can be controlled quickly, so the amount of stalls that burned can be minimized.
