Jakarta and BGN Ink Strategic Deal for Free Nutritious Meals

Jakarta is teaming up with the National Nutrition Agency to get the 'Free Nutritious Meal' program off the ground. Governor Pramono Anung and BGN Head Dadan Hindayana sealed the partnership with an MoU signing at City Hall this Tuesday (2/10).

We’re seeing a significant boost in our social welfare markers

Pramono highlighted that the initiative is a game-changer for public welfare, particularly for students.

"For Jakarta, the impact of this Free Nutritious Meal program is nothing short of extraordinary and will make a world of difference for our youth," he stated.

Pramono noted that the MBG program has served as a catalyst for Jakarta’s economic growth, which currently stands at 5.21%—outstripping the national average of 5.11%.

He also shed light on the positive ripple effects in child nutrition, including a downturn in stunting and poverty rates, alongside a boost in employment.

"What truly hits home for me, personally, is seeing the nutrition indicators finally showing marked improvement," he explained.

He went on to say that the meal program is 'rounding out' Jakarta’s comprehensive support systems. By working hand in glove with existing initiatives like KJP and KJMU, the city is effectively closing the gap on social inequality.

He emphasized that these integrated efforts are a major boon for the community.

"We’ve got schooling covered on our end, and now, with the National Nutrition Agency providing the necessary fuel for our students' health, we’re seeing a significant boost in our social welfare markers," he added.

Central to the strategic MoU, Jakarta’s Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMDs) have pledged to keep the wheels turning by guaranteeing a steady supply of raw materials for the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).

Governor has called on BUMD directors to ensure that the supply chain remains airtight to meet the program's massive requirements.

BGN Head, Dadan Hindayana tipped his hat to the Jakarta government for their unwavering support. He revealed that out of the 804 targeted Nutrition Service Units (SPPG), 475 are already up and running, while another 566 are currently in the pipeline.

"With Jakarta’s infrastructure being so accessible, I’m confident we’ll hit the mark in no time," he stated.

He emphasized that the partnership is a solid footing for the program, ensuring both supply chain resilience and keeping food prices in check for the benefit of all Jakartans.
