Thousand Islands Food Security, Marine and Agriculture (KPKP) Sub-agency will distribute 4,800 chili seedlings to residents in six urban villages this year to strengthen food security while boosting the local economy.

Head of the Thousand Islands KPKP Sub-agency Nurliati said the seedlings will be distributed quarterly, with 1,200 handed out to residents each quarter.
S. Jakarta KPKP Aims to Sterilize 2,500 Cats This Year"This year, we are ready to distribute 4,800 chili seedlings. In the first quarter, each urban village will receive 200 seedlings," she said on Thursday (2/12).
Nurliati explained that 40 households will receive the assistance each quarter. Each household can receive up to five chili seedlings by showing their ID cards as proof of residence.
She expressed hope that the assistance will not only meet household consumption needs, but also provide economic value. The chili harvest can be used for personal consumption or sold to generate family income.
"We hope this program can help curb inflation, improve household incomes, beautify the environment, and support the realization of self-reliant islands toward food security in the Thousand Islands," she added.
She noted that at least 4,000 chili seedlings were distributed last year. Strong public enthusiasm has encouraged the agency to continue the program sustainably.
"Let's make this program a success. Planting chilies in home yards will create a greener and more productive environment," she said.
Meanwhile, Masiah (48), a resident of Kelapa Island, welcomed the chili seedling assistance, saying it would help residents meet their chili needs on their own.
Masiah also hopes the Thousand Islands KPKP Sub-agency will continue providing guidance on plant maintenance to ensure optimal harvest results.
"We are very grateful and thankful for this assistance. Hopefully the program will continue and benefit even more residents," she shared.
