Entering Ramadhan, staple food price in Seribu Islands is still stable. Yet, a price difference on commodities is pretty high compared to price in the mainland.

Staple price is still stable. I'm still using the old price. Hopefully there is no price hike

"Staple price is still stable. I'm still using the old price. Hopefully there is no price hike," said Mila, a grocery peddler of RT 03/05, Pramuka Island, Seribu Islands, Monday (6/6).

She assessed price difference by Rp 2,000-4,000 with the mainland is natural, because goods transportation to the islands is difficult enough. Nevertheless, people had no trouble getting basic commodities except beef.

"The expensive one is sugar Rp 18,000 per kg, chicken egg Rp 28,000 per kg, chicken meat Rp 40 kg per pieces and red onion Rp 40,000 per kg," she told.

According to her, staple that does not experience price hike is red chili Rp 30,000-40,000 per kg. While other commodities like rice, flour and cooking oil increased Rp 2,000-4,000.

She hoped, the government could open folk market thus residents get food prices under standard prices and quality.
