4 Months, Loss from Fire Cases Reaches Rp 51.66 Billion

Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Department recorded that 280 fire cases have happened in the city from January to April this year. From those cases, the loss suffered is predicted reaching Rp 51.66 billion.

β€œThe total loss includes fire incidents in Pasar Senen and Pasar Rumput happened several days ago,” stated Head Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Department, Subejo, Wednesday (4/30).

According to the data, 55 fire cases happened in January, February 80 cases, March 71 cases, and April 74 cases, causing four casualties and hurting four officers and 14 residents.

Fire Department to Educate Market Traders Fire Handling

Most of the fire happened in West Jakarta with 86 cases, East Jakarta 66 cases, South Jakarta 51 cases, North Jakarta 42 cases, and Central Jakarta 35 cases.

In average, the cause of fire was electricity short circuit, which reached 209 cases. The following causes were stove blaze 19 cases, cigarette butts 6 cases, and others 46 cases.

For information, in the period of January-September 2013, as many as 712 fire cases happened with total losses reached Rp 124 billion. While in 2012, the loss caused by fire cases was Rp 290 billion. That amount increased from the loss suffered in 2011, which reached Rp 217 billion.

β€œThe residents are urged to be more careful, especially in using electricity. Many things must be done, including not piling up power plugs and checking whether the electricity installation still appropriate or not and the connection tight or not,” stressed Subejo.
