Jakarta to Hold Citywide Lights-Out Initiative

The Jakarta government is set to conduct a simultaneous and participatory lights-out initiative as part of an energy-saving and carbon emission reduction campaign. This action also serves as the implementation of Governor’s Instruction No. 14/2021 on the Implementation of Lights-Out.

The lights-out event will take place from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM and will be held three times in 2026: on Saturday, April 25, in observance of Earth Day; on June 13, for World Environment Day; and on September 26, to commemorate World Ozone Day.
Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Dudi Gardesi Sadikin explained that the implementation mechanism for the lights-out event is done in a participatory manner by building managers and those in charge of facilities and lighting, following their respective jurisdictions.

Here are the locations for the lights-out event as mandated by Governor’s Instruction No. 14/2021:
1) All Jakarta government office buildings (excluding hospitals, community health centers (Puskesmas), clinics, etc.).
2) Major thoroughfares and arterial roads across the five administrative cities as follows:
a) Central Jakarta: Jalan Sudirman (from Dukuh Atas to Sampoerna Strategic Building) and Jalan MH. Thamrin; the perimeter of Jalan Medan Merdeka (Medan Merdeka Utara in front of Presidential Palace), Jalan Gerbang Pemuda – Jalan Asia Afrika, City Hall courtyard, and Central Jakarta Mayor’s Office.
b) North Jakarta: Jalan Yos Sudarso, North Jakarta Mayor’s Office Complex, and Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan.
c) East Jakarta: Jalan Dr. Sumarno, Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, and East Jakarta Mayor’s Office Complex.
d) West Jakarta: Jalan Daan Mogot and Jalan Kembangan Raya (in front of the West Jakarta Mayor’s Office), and West Jakarta Mayor’s Office Complex.
e) South Jakarta: Jalan Prapanca Raya, Jalan Gerbang Pemuda – Jalan Asia Afrika, Jalan Sudirman (from Sampoerna Strategic Building to Youth Statue), and Jalan Rasuna Said.
3) Jakarta City Landmarks, including: City Hall; National Monument (Monas) and its fountains; Arjuna Wiwaha Statue and its fountains; Indonesia Roundabout Hotel (Bundaran HI) and its fountains; Youth Statue (Patung Pemuda) and its fountains; Heroes Statue (Patung Pahlawan); and General Sudirman Statue.
4) Various private buildings, commercial buildings, shopping centers, restaurants, hotels, and apartments will also be participating in the lights-out event.
