Iin Explores Collaboration with Garment Businesses in Tambora

West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainah explored potential collaboration with garment business owners in an effort to address welfare and environmental issues in Tambora Sub-district.

Around 300 active small and medium home-based garment businesses

The initiative took place during her visit on Tuesday (5/12) to a severely rundown neighborhood in RW 03, Jembatan Besi Urban Village; a survey of underprivileged families conducted by Dasawisma members in RW 06, Krendang Urban Village; and a home-based garment industry area in RW 02, Duri Utara Urban Village.

"Tambora has many garment industry businesses, and from there we see several things. First, we want everything in this area to become a positive potential," Iin said.

She explained that Tambora is a densely populated area with a large number of home-based garment businesses.

"There are around 300 active small and medium home-based garment businesses operating in Tambora Sub-district," she said.

During the visit, Iin also reviewed labor aspects and the contribution of business owners to the surrounding environmental quality.

"The involvement of business owners in supporting environmental cleanliness in Tambora has been appreciated by residents," she said.

Regarding employment, Iin also monitored the implementation of social security programs while highlighting the potential for empowering local residents through job opportunities.

She said garment businesses that absorb workers from nearby communities could help improve residents' welfare.

For that reason, Iin challenged business owners to collaborate in organizing training, mentoring, and skills development programs for local residents.

"The garment industry potential here can become a strong supporting resource if we are able to recruit workers from the local community," she stressed.

Iin also expressed hope that home-based garment businesses would support neighborhood improvements, including better sanitation facilities and urban farming initiatives.

She believes connecting existing challenges with local potential could become a solution to address various issues in the area.

"We will also encourage residents to increase awareness, including regarding cleanliness and improving their skills," she added.
