Gas Leak Sparks Fire at Poins Square Cafe

Fire razed the Afterhours bar and billiard center at Poins Square, South Jakarta, on Monday (5/25) night. The fire reportedly broke out due to a gas leak during a canister replacement in the kitchen on the second floor.

South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency Head, Asril Rizal said that to handle the fire, 14 fire units and 54 personnel were sent to the location.
"We received the report at 7:17 PM and began our fire suppression efforts at 7:23 PM," he explained, Tuesday (5/26).

"The operation concluded at 7:57 PM. and is now being handled by other related parties," he reported.
South Jakarta BPBD Task Force Head, Kendar explained the fire started during a gas cylinder replacement by a kitchen worker. A suspected leak in the cylinder triggered the blaze.
"There was an uncontrollable leak during the replacement that caused the fire," he revealed.
According to him, employees attempted to put out the fire using portable fire extinguishers, but the flames quickly spread to other parts of the building.
As a result of the incident, a janitor named Eka sustained burns and was immediately rushed to Pondok Indah Hospital by his colleagues for medical treatment.
"No fatalities in the fire, though it did cause panic within the shopping center area," he concluded.
