Jakarta City Council (DPRD) Commission A member Dadiyono welcomed the Jakarta World Folkfest (JWFF) 2026, held at Jakarta City Hall, on Thursday (7/2).
Becoming a global city with a strong cultural identity
According to him, the festival serves as a platform to strengthen cultural exchange while supporting Jakarta's vision to become a global city that remains rooted in its cultural heritage.
Uniting the World: Jakarta World FolkFest 2026 as a Cultural BridgeDadiyono praised the cultural performances presented by delegations from various countries, saying the Betawi performances were equally remarkable and showcased Jakarta's rich cultural heritage.
"Betawi culture is incredibly rich and must continue to be preserved. Jakarta's goal of becoming a global city with a strong cultural identity must become a reality, especially as the city prepares to celebrate its 500th anniversary next year," he noted.
He expressed hope that more countries would take part in future editions of the festival, creating greater opportunities for cultural exchange and collaboration with Jakarta's international partners.
"The more countries that participate, the better and more vibrant the festival will be. Jakarta is home to many friendly nations represented through consulates and embassies, giving us enormous potential for cultural cooperation," he said.
Dadiyono added that cultural festivals alone are not enough to support Jakarta's transformation into a global city. He said the city must also continue improving its infrastructure and addressing various urban challenges.
He expressed confidence that the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Jakarta DPRD would continue working together to make Jakarta a more advanced, livable, and prosperous city.
"We want Jakarta to be known around the world as a city that is welcoming to visitors and rich in culture," he stated.
