The Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to ensuring that Jakarta's elderly residents receive protection, access to services, and a good quality of life.

This was conveyed by the Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung at the 30th Anniversary of the Elderly Day (HLUN) 2026 commemoration event at Jakarta Bird Land Gelanggang Samudera Ancol, North Jakarta, Tuesday (7/14).

He stated that the number of elderly people in Jakarta has reached 10.6 percent of the total population, or around 1.16 million people. The Jakarta Provincial Government has introduced various programs for the elderly to improve their quality of life.
In the transportation sector, Jakarta's seniors have free access to public transportation through the Free Service Card. They can access free transportation under the auspices of the Jakarta Provincial Government, such as Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek, the Jakarta MRT, and the Jakarta LRT, as well as free access to several tourist destinations.
In the health sector, the Jakarta Provincial Government is strengthening the health of the elderly through Posyandu Lansia (Elderly Integrated Health Post), Integrated Elderly Polyclinics, and home visit services for the elderly with mobility limitations.
Pramono also encouraged the public to take advantage of Jakarta's healthcare facilities. The Jakarta Provincial Government itself has 31 hospitals, 44 community health centers (Puskesmas), and 292 sub-community health centers.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Elderly Card program has been used by 168,497 seniors as of June 2026. In the education sector, there are currently 78 Elderly Schools with 2,278 participants.
"As Jakarta approaches its 500th anniversary next year, hopefully the elderly in Jakarta will remain productive and enthusiastic about it," he added.
The Chairwoman of the Jakarta Elderly Communication Forum, Maria Ulfani, emphasized that Jakarta's elderly are committed to living healthily, independently, working, and not being a burden on their children and grandchildren.
"These friends are seniors who are still productive, and we are committed to being healthy residents of Jakarta. So, we regularly get our health checked. We don't want to be a burden on our children and grandchildren. We want to continue working," she admitted.
