Opening WAPOR Conference, Pramono Highlights Importance of Data-Driven Policy

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung highlighted the necessity of evidence-based policy-making grounded in credible and accurate data, citing Jakarta’s diverse demographics and wide-ranging needs.

May this conference be fruitful

"Diversity demands that the government serves as a good listener to understand what residents need and act on data-driven insights," he remarked, during the opening of the 9th World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) Asia Pacific Annual Conference 2026 at City Hall, Tuesday (7/28).

According to Pramono, the digital revolution has shifted how people access information and express their views.

To adapt, the Jakarta government actively collects public input through multiple avenues, including social media, citizen complaint platforms, the JAKI Super App, and various community forums.

"This input enables us to spot emerging trends, assess our public services, and improve our policies," he added.

Through these efforts, the Jakarta government is committed to remaining transparent and responsive to various public grievances. He emphasized, credible public opinion research is essential for strengthening open, responsive, and evidence-based governance.

In doing so, these initiatives aim to bolster public trust in the government’s presence and its commitment to resolving citizen issues.

Further, he welcomed the WAPOR conference for bringing together academics, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to share knowledge and address global challenges.

"May this conference be fruitful. It is my hope that Jakarta becomes a hub for new knowledge and collaborative public opinion research throughout Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific," he stated.

Notably, the conference covers various themes, such as urban and social issues, health, and geopolitics. Hosted at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) until July 29, the event brings together 110 delegates representing 21 nations.
