Peringati HUT RI, Pramono Sebut Kemerdekaan Harus Diisi Kerja Nyata

Pramono: Independence must Be Manifested Through Concrete Action

The Jakarta government marked the 81st Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence with a solemn flag-raising ceremony held at the City Hall courtyard on Monday (8/17).

We hope to keep the city’s conditions stable and well-controlled

Acting as the ceremony inspector, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung delivered a poignant message, emphasizing that independence must be manifested through concrete action—specifically by sustaining economic growth and ensuring that development is felt equitably across all levels of society.

"Today, we are reminded that independence is not merely a legacy to be commemorated and celebrated. It is a mandate that must be upheld and filled with tangible work for the people, the nation, and the state," he expressed.

For the Jakarta government, he explained, true independence means providing top-tier public services that ensure every citizen feels protected, safe, and comfortable. He reiterated Jakarta’s strategic vision to accelerate its transformation into a premier economic hub and a competitive global city. This transition is anchored in economic resilience, which serves as the bedrock for sustainable development.

"The spirit of 'Jaga Jakarta' (Safeguard Jakarta) remains our driving force. We hope to keep the city’s conditions stable and well-controlled," he added.

Pram highlighted Jakarta’s robust economic performance, noting that in the second quarter of 2026, the city’s economy grew by 5.52%, contributing a significant 16.32% to the national economy. Further, inflation has remained stable and well-managed at 2.5%. These milestones serve as a catalyst to ensure that progress is distributed fairly among the populace.

The administration’s commitment to human capital was also a focal point, with the city’s Human Development Index (HDI) reaching an impressive 85.05 in 2025. Education remains a top priority, supported by flagship programs such as the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP), the Jakarta Superior Student Map (KJMU), and the diploma release initiative.

In the health sector, Jakarta government is focusing on world-class service through the development of international-standard hospitals, including the project on the former Sumber Waras Hospital site.

Addressing urban challenges, he reaffirmed his commitment to tackling congestion, flooding, housing needs, job creation, and public service efficiency. Infrastructure projects are being fast-tracked, including the Jakarta LRT (Kelapa Gading-Manggarai route), which is slated for inauguration this August. Other key projects include the MRT Phase 2 (Bundaran HI-Kota Tua), the Dukuh Atas pedestrian deck, and the expansion of Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek routes reaching as far as the Seribu Islands.

Despite the massive infrastructure push, environmental sustainability remains a core concern. Pramono called for a collaborative effort between the government and the community to address challenges such as waste management, prolonged droughts, and water scarcity.

He also noted that developmental success must be underpinned by public trust. Jakarta has successfully maintained an "Unqualified Opinion" (WTP)—the highest audit rating—for the ninth consecutive year. "This achievement is a form of accountability and a mandate to continue safeguarding the public’s trust," he added.

To support long-term development, Jakarta is also pioneering innovative funding strategies, including creative financing schemes.

"Independence today is no longer about physical warfare or bearing arms. It is about lowering our egos to listen to one another and working together for the common good," he concluded.
