Ragunan Zoo Hosts Exciting Festivities for Indonesia’s 81st Anniversary

The Ragunan Zoo (TMR) in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, is hosting a series of captivating festivities to commemorate the 81st Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence.

The activities are based on the animals' natural daily routines

Ragunan Zoo Speaker, Wahyudi Bambang, stated that the highlights of the celebration include special gorilla feeding attractions and unique competitions involving the zoo’s residents.

"The activities are based on the animals' natural daily routines, but we have curated them into festive contests, such as fruit-eating challenges and other enrichment games for the animals," he expressed, Monday (8/17).

He explained that Ragunan Zoo remains fully operational during the August 17 national holiday to accommodate the influx of visitors. Consequently, the zoo’s routine Monday operational break has been rescheduled.

Beyond the animal attractions, the zoo has been adorned with patriotic decorations and red-and-white ornaments across various areas to enhance the festive atmosphere for visitors.

Wahyudi added that internal competitions are also being held for the zookeepers. These activities are intended specifically for the staff and are carefully scheduled so as not to disrupt the zoo's public operations.

"We are holding some lighthearted games for the employees, but I can assure you it won't affect the visitor experience or the zoo’s services," he noted.

Regarding attendance, he reported that 30,000 people visited Ragunan Zoo on Sunday (8/16). This high volume is expected to continue into Monday, coinciding with the national holiday.

"We anticipate that visitor numbers will remain robust, likely ranging between 20,000 and 30,000 people," he said.

To manage the anticipated surge in visitors, the management has intensified preparations, particularly by expanding parking facilities for both motorcycles and cars.

"We have prepared alternative parking zones within the premises. For four-wheeled vehicles specifically, we have readied more than 37 parking points to accommodate the influx," he concluded..
