Ready to Ride, Gading-Manggarai LRT Line Launches August 26

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung conducted a final inspection ahead of the LRT Jakarta inauguration, which included a trial run of the Velodrome-Manggarai route.

This includes the investment for 16 new train sets

Pramono confirmed that the construction of the 12.2-kilometer LRT infrastructure, including the railway tracks, is 100 percent complete.

"In terms of the overall construction and completion of this LRT project, the tracks and elevated pathways are officially 100 percent finished," he expressed, at Manggarai LRT Station in South Jakarta, Monday (8/24).

Currently, the project—representing a total investment by Rp 12.1 trillion—has entered its final phase: rigorous testing by the Ministry of Transportation. Repeated inspections are being conducted to ensure that the LRT Jakarta line extending to Manggarai Station is fully ready for service.

"From the Jakarta government’s perspective, both the construction and the railway tracks are now fully prepared for a comprehensive inauguration," he explained.

President Prabowo Subianto is slated to preside over the grand opening of the LRT Jakarta Kelapa Gading-Manggarai route on August 26, 2026. Following the inauguration, the line will be fully operational daily from 5 AM to 11 PM.

In its initial phase, the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai route is designed to accommodate a daily passenger capacity of up to 80,000 commuters.

Governor Pramono added that once this route is active, construction will immediately proceed toward Dukuh Atas. The Jakarta government has earmarked a total investment by Rp 2.7 trillion for the Manggarai-Dukuh Atas extension.

"This includes the investment for 16 new train sets, bringing the total cost to Rp 2.7 trillion," Pramono explained.

The Jakarta government has proposed the issuance of municipal bonds to the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) to finance the LRT extension to Dukuh Atas, as well as the construction of an international hospital on the former Sumber Waras site.

Further, the city plans to expand LRT connectivity from Velodrome to the Whoosh High-Speed Rail Station and from Kelapa Gading to the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS).

Once these routes are completed, Pramono is confident that LRT Jakarta will serve as the primary transportation backbone connecting East, North, South, and Central Jakarta.

"Once everything is seamlessly connected, we hope to see a significantly improved transportation landscape in Jakarta," he stated.

Commuters can enjoy a promotional flat fare of just Rp 5,000 for LRT Jakarta until October. Afterward, the Jakarta government will evaluate and announce the new fare pricing.

"We want to maintain this level of affordability, and we will soon decide on the special fare for this transitional phase," he explained.
