Drainage Revitalization Progress on Jalan Lontar VIII Reaches 30 Percent

The personnel from the Koja District Water Resources Implementation Unit in North Jakarta is revitalizing the water channel on Jalan Lontar VIII, RT 06 and RT 07/RW 10, Tugu Utara Urban Village. Work progress has currently reached 30 percent.

A total length of 350 meters

Head of the Implementation Unit, Slamet Riyanto said the work involved standardizing the dimensions of the channels, which previously varied in size and hindered optimal water flow.

"Work began in late August. The drainage channels being repaired have a total length of 350 meters, spanning both sides of the road," he said, Wednesday (9/2).

He added that the channel width has been standardized to 60 centimeters, and the depth increased from the original 90 centimeters to 1.2 meters to enhance water flow capacity, particularly during rainfall.

According to him, the revitalization of the channel is carried out manually, deploying 18 personnel equipped with the necessary tools.

"The channel will eventually be covered with U-ditch to make it neater and safer for pedestrians," he added.

Physical progress on the work has currently reached approximately 30 percent. His side aims to complete the revitalization within the next two to three months.

Meanwhile, Head of RT 07/RW 10 of Tugu Urban Village, Kandeng (62), welcomed the completion of the channel revitalization project, as the area frequently experienced flooding exceeding 30 centimeters during heavy rain.

"It is indeed a flood-prone area. Thankfully, the proposal we submitted last year is finally being implemented this year. Hopefully, our neighborhood won't flood anymore," she hoped.
