The Jakarta Provincial Government is stepping up enforcement of waste management regulations in the capital.
They include fines and warning letters
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said 29 waste hauling service providers had been sanctioned for violating regulations from January to September 2026. Another 44 parties were sanctioned for dumping waste indiscriminately or burning it.
Jakarta Govt to Expand Waste Screening System to 11 Rivers"We have found several violations while enforcing waste management regulations," Pramono said at the TB Simatupang Waste Screening Facility (SSTBS) in South Jakarta on Monday (10/5).
Pramono expressed hope that stricter enforcement would help improve Jakarta's waste management system amid limited rainfall during the current El Nino phenomenon.
"Hopefully, stronger enforcement will lead to better waste management in Jakarta," he said.
The governor also urged the public to comply with waste management regulations, including to help reduce the risk of fires at illegal waste disposal sites.
Jakarta's waste management system has shifted from the previous collect-and-dispose model to a sort-collect-and-process model, in line with Gubernatorial Instruction (Ingub) No. 5/2026 on Waste Sorting.
Jakarta Environment Agency Head Dudi Gardesi added that sanctions against waste hauling service providers include warning letters, administrative fines, and publication of the companies' names.
"They include fines and warning letters. We will process all of them. However, we have not published the names yet because we can only disclose the names of violators after the third warning," Dudi said.
According to him, the waste hauling service providers typically improve their waste management practices after receiving warnings and fines from the Jakarta Provincial Government. This is because they are companies that work with hotels, restaurants, and cafes.
