Demolition Applied for Old Aged School Building

Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama explained several old aged school buildings in Jakarta must be demolished rather than renovated. It is aimed to save city budget. New building is stronger compared to renovated one.

Several years ago, old aged school buildings were always renovated. The effort could spend Rp 2-3 billion and there is no guarantee it will last longer

"Several years ago, old aged school buildings were always renovated. The effort could spend Rp 2-3 billion and there is no guarantee it will last longer," Basuki said at City Hall, Friday (5/2).

According to him, renovation budget is usually more expensive than building new one. "Constructing new building with 8-10 floors is reasonable. The other areas could be used to construct flat," he added.

Budget Run Out, School Construction in Koja Stopped

There are state schools in Jakarta having bad condition. The renovation which was started last year will not be continued this year. Those schools are SMKN 2 and SMAN 55.
