Chili Price Rocketing Again

A week ahead of Eid ul Fitr, the price of chili pepper in Kramat Jati Market goes up again. It is due to the incoming supply began to wane, because the farmers started to reduce picking chili in the fields. Nevertheless, its stock is safe until Eid.

Kramat Jati Market Manager, Nurman Adhi disclosed, compared to last one-two weeks, chili price rose up to 16 percent. It was due to psychological factor ahead of Eid.

He assessed, curly red chili pepper rises from Rp 17,100 to Rp 18,000 per kg. Whereas, it was Rp 15,570 per kg at the beginning of the fasting.

Then big-sized chili pepper rises from Rp 15,000 to Rp 18,000 per kg, red cayenne pepper from Rp 19,400 to Rp 21,000 per kg and green cayenne chili from Rp 11,800 to Rp 12,000 per kg.

As for the chili supply during Ramadan is also unoptimal. At the beginning of the fasting or mid-June, the supply is approximately 128 tons per day, 119 tons per day on second week, 108 tons per day on third week, 88 tons per day on fourth week and 72 tons per day on fifth week.

Despite chili price is expensive, he explained, it is lower compared to the same period in 2015. In the data, on the first week of Ramadan, curly chili pepper had hit Rp 18,714 per kg, Rp 20,429 per kg on second week, Rp 30,286 per k on third week and Rp 35,200 per kg on fourth week.

Then for big-sized red chili pepper hit Rp 21,286 per kg on first week, Rp 19,857 per kg on second week, Rp 26,714 per kg on third week and Rp 37,800 per kg on fourth week. 

Furthermore, red cayenne pepper hit Rp 13,857 per kg on first week, Rp 21,857 per kg on second week, Rp 33,286 per kg on third week and Rp 43,400 per kg on fourth week. Lastly, green cayenne pepper hit Rp 20,571 per kg on first week, Rp 22,286 per kg on second week, Rp 30,429 per kg on third week, and Rp 35,600 per kg on fourth week.
