City Plans to Open Up Markets in USA

Jakarta Governor, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held a meeting with 14 state ambassadors from USA on Tuesday (5/6) night talked about city development issues, including investment opportunities.

“Building relationships between countries like this might impact on the future opening markets in their countries. We also create opportunities if they want to invest in Jakarta. But this is just the beginning, still exploratory,” Jokowi said after the meeting that was held at a restaurant in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

The city administration plans to open up markets in America seeing a big opportunity that could be developed. However, Jokowi did not explain in detail what kind of the market is. "Yes certainly, we want to open market in there. It's a new market, there it a chance, they (the states) are also developing greatly," stated Jokowi.

City-Austria to Establish Cooperation in Development Sector

Besides that, megaprojects in the city such as giant sea wall was also discussed to attract foreign investment in the city. Correspondingly, the meeting was aimed to find out the perception of a country to Indonesia, especially Jakarta as the capital city.

"We want to know what are their perceptions to us. Essentially, they all see that we are actually able to resolve the major issues, such as flooding and transportation. It will bring an image that we can resolve those issues," Jokowi uttered.

The meeting is summarized in the Diplomatic Corps Gathering 2014 event titled. 14 ambassadors from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, United States, and Venezuela as well as U.S. ambassador to South East Asia (ASEAN) attended the meeting.

Diplomatic Corps Gathering is an annual event that is held in order to facilitate communication and coordination between City Administration with representatives of foreign countries and international organizations. Similar activities were held during the week with other ambassadors such as happened on Monday (5/5) night, Jokowi host ambassadors from Middle East countries.
