Residents Utilized Empty Land as Toga Park

Residents of RW 01, Pasar Minggu Urban Village, south Jakarta utilized their empty land around the house for planting medical plantation (Toga). Besides healing disease, the plants also beautify surrounding areas.

Few years ago, RW 01 was included as arid and dirty area in Pasar Minggu. Slowly but surely, the residents changed it well.

Family Empowerment and Welfare Movement (TP PKK) RW 01 chairwoman, Nita, said toga park is one of solutions for residents in the middle of expensive factory-made medicines.

"It's been 10 years that the residents planting almost 200 medical plantation such as turmeric, ginger, onion, spinach, and so on. RW 01 is famous with its Kampung Toga," Nita said, Wednesday (5/7).

Nita added some processed products such as spinach dent, ginger extract, sweets, pastries, and other could be produced through this medical plantations.

Through this achievement, RW 01, Pasar Minggu Urban Village, represents South Jakarta Administrative city in 2014 Jakarta Competition of Family Herb Plantation.

“We hoped the innovation activity of herbs plant cultivation which conducted by residents of RW 01 could be emulated, especially in every urban villages of South Jakarta to do similar cultivation program. At least planting 10 kind of plantation on their house yard,” said Tri Joko, South Jakarta Vice Mayor.
