Labors in N. Jakarta Celebrate May Day Through Tree Planting

Commemorating the May Day holiday, as much as 400 labors in North Jakarta preferred to plant new trees, to hold a communal work and social service, than conducting demonstration. Head of North Jakarta Manpower and Transmigration Sub-Department, Mujiono said such activity was aimed to savor the national holiday, through go green action.

Such planting is a response to the proposal of some labor organizations which agreed to commemorate May Day with social action.

"We had held a meeting with labor representatives yesterday. We finally agreed to plant trees," he stated, Thursday (5/1).

Tree planting was carried out in Marunda coastal, near Marunda Flat. In addition to plant 500 trees, the labors also held musical entertainment.

The activity was participated by General Federation of Construction and Informal (FKUI), Federation of Metal and Electronics (Flomenik), General industry and Health (Kikes), and Commerce Finance and Banking (Nikuba).

Coordinator of Jakarta Indonesian Prosperous Workers Union Confederation (KSBSI), Dedi Hardianto, explained tree planting in commemorating May Day is a new breakthrough. Whereas, all this time, the labors incorporated in members of KSBSI were always conducting demonstration during May Day.

"We will socialize the activity to labors, where the aspirations not only with the demonstration. This is because the demonstration is just a tool, if there is a better tool, we must utilize it," he exclaimed.
