This action was form of their protest against Ancol management that requires taxi without passenger entering Ancol area to pay entrance fee as much as Rp 20,000. Moreover, they also felt have been lied by TIJA management that initially allowed them to enter Ancol area without any levy entry starting Monday (5/5), but turned out not true.

What about the drivers who have their own taxis? Do we, as an organization, cannot be considered as an official body? If there is no clarity today, we will block Ancol again,” asserted the action coordinator, Daniel Dali.Hundreds of Taxi Drivers Block Ancol Main Entrance GateResponding this matter, PT TIJA Corporate Communications Manager, Meitty Yan Harahap, stated that the policy of charging entry levy for taxi without passenger is conducted for the safety and comfort of Ancol visitors’. So, to avoid undesirable things, the taxi drivers who enter Ancol and take passengers are recorded by TIJA management.
“Indeed, two taxi companies are currently listed. Related to the fellow taxi drivers who are members of an organization, please submit your proposal and we will study its feasibility,” he said.
Based on beritajakarta.com observations, the action had heated up due to the protesters tried several times to enter and pick up their colleagues who were in the middle of negotiation which seemed endless. As for the visitors who wanted to enter Ancol, they were directed to three other entrances.
According to Head of North Jakarta Resort Police Operational Division Chief AKBP Allan D Satya, 80 personnel were deployed to secure this demonstration action. In addition, the police also continuously tried to pursue mediation between TIJA management with the drivers’ representatives.
