Lots of Channels in S. Jakarta Covered by Buildings

Inundation that occurs in South Jakarta is commonly caused by water channel that covered by building. To minimize it, building demolishment should be intensified.

"This is most prevalent in South Jakarta. Because almost all channels are covered by building," said Jakarta Governor, Basuki T Purnama, Monday (8/22).
He disclosed, many rivers and channels narrowed. River which was originally 20 meters wide left have narrowed up to three meters thus it could not accommodate water debit.
Channels in West Jakarta Dredged“Could you imagine that we just rely on channel's sheet pile to block water. Ironically, there are buildings on it," he expressed.
According to him, the building must be demolished gradually to smoothen water flow and minimize inundation in future. His party would purchase citizen's land in a sunken area and transformed into a water reservoir.
"We want to buy, but they still reluctant to sell it," he finished.
