Basuki Guarantees will Not Selective in Closing Discotheques

Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said that the police are still investigating drugs and weapon finding in Stadium Discotheque, Taman Sari, West Jakarta. The investigation is conducted because Stadium Discotheque management is allegedly involved in drugs distribution.

“We will investigate the discotheque management and owner due to drugs and weapon were found inside lockers. It means they probably involved in selling (drugs). It is being investigated,” stated Basuki at City Hall, Wednesday (5/21).

According to Basuki, Jakarta Provincial Government and Indonesian Police have agreed to close Stadium Discotheque permanently. Moreover, Jakarta Provincial Government ensures will not release permit for new entertainment place to replace Stadium.

The agreement between Jakarta Provincial Government and Indonesian Police is an effort to eradicate drugs networking in the capital city. In the agreement clause, Jakarta Provincial Government committed to directly close discotheques which discovered become drugs distribution places. Basuki ensures that Jakarta Provincial Government will not be selective in enforcing the rules.

“If not, people would think about business competition. We should control the big ones first. If the small ones still reckless, that’s insolent. Just control all of them,” he stressed.
