Water Hyacinths Cleaning in Pluit Reservoir Takes 2 Weeks

Pluit Reservoir, an area as wide as 80 hectares in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, is strewn again with water hyacinths that cover nearly half of the reservoir surface. The growth of the water hyacinths is obviously disturbing sights. For that, since Sunday (5/25) Jakarta Cleanliness Department deploys nine janitors and a special equipment to clean the water plant.

Deputy Head of Jakarta Cleanliness Department, Isnawa Adji, disclosed that the special equipment, which is a lifter and enumerator equipment, is an aid given by a state-owned company (BUMN). The cleaning work of the water hyacinths is estimated to finish in two weeks.

“In addition to the lifter and enumerator equipment, there is also a boat belongs to us that operates. We’re planning to add a floating excavator in two days ahead. With the current working condition, the cleaning is probably finished in two weeks,” he stated, Monday (5/26).

City Succeeded in Normalization Pluit Reservoir

Meanwhile, the heavy equipment used to remove the water hyacinths is known had been damaged yesterday. According to Mudjiono, the technician repairing the heavy equipment, there was small problem happened to the equipment. But after being repaired, the equipment can be operated again.

“It’s not a big deal, just broken bolts on the blade driver. After being repaired, it will continue to operate,” he uttered.
