A School in Kebon Sirih Turns into Waste Disposal

The activity of Kebon State Elementary School 04 and 08 on Jalan Agus Salim No 57, Kebon Sirih, Menteng, Central Jakarta should be disturbed. The school is turned into garbage disposal for an ex-hotel building besides the school building.

The building is an ex-hotel which was destroyed by fire some moments ago. The four story building was settled by tens of people. From the inside, there are pipeline to throw the garbage to the back, front, and besides of school areas. The 14 inch pipes thrown wastes, underwear, trashes, women sanitary napkins, and even a bed.

Kebon Sirih 04 Elementary School Headmaster, Ashadi, said the studying activity is totally disturbed by trash's bad smell.

“I have sent objection letter about waste disposal that disturbs this school, but there is no action. In 2011, I also delivered messages to City Mayor,” He revealed, Friday (5/30).

Ashadi explained, there has been a staff from Kebon Sirih Urban Village who directly reviewed school condition and checked the pipelines. And also from coordinators authority who settles the building came to the school and repair pipelines to make wastes not be thrown to the school. Unfortunately, no longer after it fixed, the pipelines are broken again.

Responding this matter, Central Jakarta Head Sub-department of Primary Education, Sujadiyono, stated the school should repeat the report to urban village office for further action.

Meanwhile, Menteng sub-district Head, Bondan Diyah Ekowati, admitted there is no report from school related to this matter.

"We have not received letter from the school, but we will surely check it," Diyah admitted.
