Public Works Ministry Contributes 20 TPSTs

The amount of trash produced by Jakartans every day is reaching 6,500 tons, which then disposed to Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Treatment Area (TPST), Bekasi. In order to reduce the trash volume, Public Works (PU) Directorate General for Human Settlements handed out 20 units of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3R) TPST to Jakarta Cleanliness Department, Friday (5/9).
By only disposing the trash’s residues, it means that the volume of trash transported to Bantar Gebang decreases. This would extend TPST’s life usage
Director for Environment Sanitation Development (PPLP) of Public Works Ministry Directorate General for Human Settlements, Rudi Arifin, said that increasing number of Jakarta citizens automatically increases domestic wastes production which could affect to the increasing pollution and waste management costs. On the other side, by reducing trash volume in Bantar Gebang TPST, it would extend the life of TPST usage.

According to Arifin, the 20 units of 3R TPST are located on Jalan Jagakarsa, Jalan Banjarsari Cilandak Barat, Kramat Jati Urban Village, Kampung Rambutan Terminal, Lenteng Agung Urban Village, Ciganjur Urban Village, Semper Cleanliness Department Complex, Jalan Swadaya 1 Pejaten, Jalan Raya Kalisari, Bambu Apus Urban Village, Cibubur Camp Complex, Rajawati 3 Agro Tourism Village, PLN Duren Tiga, Duren Sawit Navy Complex, Pesanggrahan Cleanliness Department Dormitory, Kopassus TPST, Lebak Bulus Urban Village, Kapuk Cengkareng Urban Village, and Kalideres Army Dormitory. In addition to that, three more TPSTs will also be built in Jati Urban Village and Kebonpala Urban Village in East Jakarta as well as Palmerah Urban Village in West Jakarta.
Meanwhile, Head of Jakarta Cleanliness Department, Saptastri Ediningtyas, told that the installed capacity from those 20 units of TPST reaches 170 tons of trashes per day. Especially for Pesanggra
han 3R TPST, its processing capacity is 50 tons with digester fermentation process reaches 2,400 cubic meters.“Here (in Pesanggrahan 3R TPST) as many as 50 tons of trashes can be processed per day. I don’t remember all of the 20 TPSTs, but our target is definitely to reduce trash volume disposed to Bantar Gebang that reaches 2,000 tons per day,” she uttered.
