2,600 Free Stands Prepared in Jakarta Fair

In enlivening Jakarta's 487th anniversary, the city administration gears up to kick off the Jakarta Fair (PRJ) at Monas, which falls on June 10-15, 2014. There will be 2,600 free stands for small and medium enterprises (UKM). To get it, the UKM must go through a tight selection first.

The selection process must be transparent

Acting Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama disclosed such selection will be conducted by Jakarta Energy and Industry Department in a bid to anticipate illegal stand sales. "The selection process must be transparent," he expressed, at City Hall, Wednesday (6/4).

He stated the selection must be conducted transparently because of his party has received a report over cheating action. "We get a report where there are people offer discount up to 5 percent. They do it to get sponsor from regional-owned enterprises (BUMD) and commission money," he expressed.

Monas jakarta Fair is Free of Charge

Basuki added the Jakarta Fair is held to provide opportunities for middle-lower class people to enjoy the event. Thus, the participant could be free from charge and not sell products at high price.

"We want the middle-lower class people to enjoy the event for free. Thus they can use their money for shopping. That's why they should sell cheap products. If the stand is rented at high price, the product will be sold expensively. But we provide free stands in Monas," he described.

He also compares the Jakarta Fair implementation in Monas and Kemayoran. "In Kemayoran, the stand is indeed free of charge but it will be re-managed by mass organization to be rented again. Thus, many people decided to set up stall on the roadside," he assessed.
