Citizens Asked Not to Get Provoked by SARA Issues

Ahead of Presidential Election on upcoming July 9, Indonesian political climate becomes hotter. Some black campaign concerning Ethnicity, Religion, Race, and Intergroup Relations (SARA) begins to appear to the surface. The citizens are asked to deal with those issues maturely to avoid clash.

Chairwoman of Islamic Propagation Contact Forum (BKMT), Tuty Alawiyah, hopes the citizens not to mind the SARA issues during this campaign period. If they assessed objectively, the citizens would be able to see the quality aspects of future leaders.

I hope the citizens would not be focused on SARA issues during campaign period in June 4 to July 5,” she stated, Friday (6/6).
Moreover, Alawiyah also highlighted mosque’s roles during campaign period. She agrees that as a worship place, mosque not to aim the pilgrims to particular president candidate.
“I agree there should be no campaign in mosques. But if it for reading Quran I think it’s not contradict. What is wrong is to direct people to choose (particular president candidate),” she asserted.
Meanwhile, member of Election Supervisory Committee (Bawaslu), Daniel Zuchron, admitted that black campaign is currently rampant going on in the society. Because of that, his party has requested Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) to inventory accounts and sites which indicated doing black campaign. After the data is recorded, it will be given to Communication and Information Ministry to be blocked.
“All this time we received many reports from the citizens about black campaign. One of the reports is an account that uploaded fake license of one the candidates. Therefore, KPI is currently recording accounts and sites which indicated doing black campaign. As for posters and banners, it is handled by regional level,” he uttered.
