78 Street Vendors on Trial, Rp 2.3 Million of Fine Collected

Tens of street vendors were netted on a raid held in six sub-districts in North Jakarta. The raid was then followed with light offense trial (Tipiring) in North Jakarta State Court, Tuesday (6/3).

Chief Judge Diris Sinambela led the trial in which 78 street vendors were found guilty in violating article 25 verse 2 of Bylaw No. 8/2007 about Public Order. Each trader was obligated to pay fine between Rp 30,000-Rp 50,000. As a result, Rp 2,340,000 was collected.

“Today there are 78 street vendors (netted) from six sub-districts in North Jakarta sent on trial,” he told.
Arman (36), one of the street vendors, admitted that he could only resign and accepted the sanction set on him. He was obligated to pay fine for as much as Rp 30,000.
“What else can I do, I could only resign,” expressed the man who had selling coconut ice for a year on the edge of Rawa Badak Reservoir.
