Fish with Formalin Found in 4 Markets in North Jakarta

Fish with formalin can still be found in some traditional markets in the capital city. In North Jakarta, local Livestock, Fishery, and Maritime (P2K) Sub-Department discovered fish that contain formalin in four traditional markets in its jurisdiction.

Officers found 12 samples of fish and sea animals that contain formalin in four traditional markets

“According to quality monitoring and formalin test which conducted since last May, officers found 12 samples of fish and sea animals that contain formalin in four traditional markets, namely Tugu Market, Koja Baru Market, Pademangan Timur Market, and Pademangan Barat Market,” stated Head of North Jakarta P2K Sub-Department, Sri Haryati, Thursday (6/12).

She explained that officers found fresh squids, pomfret fish, and mackerels contain formalin in Tugu Market, formalin inside salted squids and rebon shrimps in Koja Baru Market, and processed codea, hungry bird, bloso fish, jambal fish, and squids contain formalin in Pademangan Barat Market. Now, her party is still investigating the original of those fish with formalin.

North Jakartans, Beware of Formalin Fish in Traditional Markets

“The traders admitted that they bought the fish from other traders and not added it with formalin. For traders who are proven using formalin, they will be given sanction starting from reprimand until seizure. Delinquent traders can also be charged with criminal sanction based on Law No. 45/2009 about Fishery,” uttered Haryati.
