East Jakarta is The Highest Rate of HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS patients in Jakarta are still sharply increasing every year. There are 24,807 cases of HIV and 6,973 AIDS in 2013. But there were only about 20 thousand cases last year. From five regions, East Jakarta is the highest with 1,416 cases. With details 462 HIV cases and 952 AIDS cases. The most HIV/AIDS sufferer is male with 1,016 people and female 360 people.

While the detail of HIV/AIDS cases in the other four regions are, West Jakarta in second place by 1,177 cases, Central Jakarta 938 cases, North Jakarta 853 cases, and South Jakarta 819 cases.

East Jakarta AIDS Prevention Commission member, dr Armida, said the main factor of HIV/AIDS high rate is because resident's of awareness.

Teachers’ and Students’ Understanding about HIV/AIDS still Low

"Many of East Jakarta residents began to report this case. So, we could detect the case higher compared to previous period," she said, Thursday (6/12).

Based on HIV/AIDS transmittal, the highest case is caused by heterosexual by 646 people (232 HIV and 414 AIDS), drugs injection by 610 people (175 HIV and 435 AIDS), working factor by 352 people (124 HV and 228 AIDS), and housewife by 210 people (73 HIV and 137 AIDS).

Due to this case, Armida added, national KPA made East Jakarta as learning site for HIV/AIDS prevention program in Jakarta. The research is focused in two community health centers in Ciracas and Pasar Rebo Sub-district.

"Those community health centers is chosen due to they have more complete equipment and comprehensive service," she stated.
