Acting Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama is committed to reform the chiefs of neigborhood unit (RT) and community unit (RW), through a direct appointment. He also is not afraid on a lawsuit over his decision, because it aims to maximize the RT/RW performance and prevent illegal stalls which are allegedly also backed by them.

Basuki disclosed that he will still appoint and select the RT/RW chiefs in Jakarta through local sub-district heads. If there is objection, he believes there is involvement in the procurement of illegal stalls in the capital.

"If they (RT/RW) have stalls, they must agree. Do you want to sue me? If you do it, I will know who you are," he asserted, at City Hall, Friday (6/13).

In addition, he also suspects there is involvement in acts of deposit for illegal parking, and extortion against the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) which came to collect the population data.

The direct appointment from Jakarta Provincial Government, he expressed, would be effective in sterilizing the RT/RW chief from thuggery action and position misappropriation. However, the new system will run when the city already has an integrity individual at the level of the hierarchy from local sub-district chief.

"That's why I want to have a good urban village and sub-district chief first," he asserted.

In future, the RT/RW chiefs who will be selected through a new  bureaucratic system from qualified cadre and competent in their field such as family welfare movement (PKK) cadres, integrated health service post (posyandu), retirees, and community figures who have the dedication and high integrity to protect the capital citizens.
