Residents Prohibited to Pass on Setiakawan Suspension Bridge

The Setiakawan Suspension Bridge that connects Jalan Setia Kawan with Jalan Semeru Raya is damaged and prone to collapse after its buffer sling ropes broken. To anticipate casualties of people passing on the bridge carelessly, West Jakarta Administration will set up a warning board until the bridge finished repaired by Jakarta Public Works Department.

“ The installation of warning board is very important since although the bridge is prone to collapse, people are still recklessly passing on the bridge ,” said Head of Grogol Petamburan Sub-District Satpol PP Task Force, Salmon Nadapdap, Monday (6/16).

Nadapdap admitted that the slope of the bridge is already very worrying. If people remain passing on it, the bridge could collapse and passersby could fall into the West Flood Canal (KBB).

“Beforehand, I have asked Grogol Urban Village Satpol PP to continuously monitor the bridge and coordinate with the parties from Duri Pulo Urban Village, Gambir Sub-District, as well as local RT and RW officials to help them monitor it,” he stated.

The bridge is known damaged since last month. For dozens of years, the bridge has become an access connecting two areas, namely Grogol Urban Village, Grogol Petamburan Sub-District, West Jakarta, with Duri Pulo Urban Village, Gambir Sub-District, Central Jakarta. The broken sling ropes are allegedly caused by its old age and also affected by the heat coming from the fire of trash burning done by the residents under the bridge.

“The Setiakawan Suspension Bridge which almost collapse will be repaired today. Preparation steps to repair the bridge are being carried out,” told Head of Jakarta Public Works Department, Manggas Rudy Siahaan.
