PMKS Getting Rampant in West Jakarta

The momentum of fasting month of Ramadan is utilized by people with social welfare issues (PMKS) from outside regions flocking the capital city to beg for donation from Jakartans. Although strict sanction awaits them, those PMKS seem to not care.

In West Jakarta, the areas begin to be crowded with PMKS are Kalideres Terminal as well as Grogol and Cengkareng traffic lights intersections. PMKS from young age to elderly are, without hesitate, approaching cars and road users to beg for donation. As a result, the traffic becomes disturbed and is also could trigger accident.

Wawan (35), an ojek (motorcycle-taxi) driver who based at Cengkareng traffic lights intersection, disclosed that the area is crowded with beggars since Friday (7/4).

“Some of them come in groups, while others come alone,” he told, Sunday (7/6).

Responding this matter, Head of West Jakarta Social Sub-Department, Ika Yuli, said that as many as 20 personnel have been prepared to be spread in locations prone to PMKS presence and dispel the PMKS.
