 1.422 PMKS Terjaring Disemester Awal

Ramadan, Bums and Beggars Predicted to Increase 15 Percent

It has become something of a tradition ahead of Ramadan where Jakarta is always flooded by bums and beggars. Hence, South Jakarta Social Sub-Department estimates the amount of bums and beggars would increase for about 10-15 percent.

In Ramadan, the amount is predicted to increase between 10-15 percent because many scavengers change profession into vagrants to get money to celebrate Eid ul Fitr

“Every month, we controlled approximately 200 people with social welfare issues (PMKS). In Ramadan, the amount is predicted to increase between 10-15 percent because many scavengers change profession into vagrants to get money to celebrate Eid ul Fitr,” uttered Head of Rehabilitation Service Section for South Jakarta Social Sub-Department, Miftahul Huda, Tuesday (6/24).

According to Huda, his party has prepared anticipation to deter PMKS whose origins are from outside Jakarta, like Depok, Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi. For PMKS netted during Ramadan, they will not be able to celebrate Eid ul Fitr with their family in hometowns.

Raided PMKS Will Celebrate Eid in Social Institution

“We’ll intensively hold raid during Ramadan, especially against wagon men who rent wagon up to Rp 1 million a month. We will coordinate with Satpol PP to raid them. They will be brought to social institutions until Eid ul Fitr ends. For wagon men, their wagons will be seized as well,” he stated.

Until this month, South Jakarta Social Sub-Department has netted 1,422 PMKS who consist of 393 beggars, 344 vagrants, and 167 psychotics. As for the highest amount of PMKS netted, it was in April with 424 people.
