2015, Monas Basement Built

The city administration is still drafting the detail of engineering design (DED) and masterplan for Monas basement construction. Predictably, they will be completed in the upcoming September thus the basement could be constructed in 2015.

Its construction will be conducted next year because we must wait for the design first

Head of Jakarta Spatial Plan Department, Gamal Sinurat disclosed that at this time, the DED and masterplan keeps being corrected and is not yet final. The masterplan is managed by his department and DED handed over to Housing and Government Buildings Department.

"This is the last year activity and has been discussed by DPRD Honorary Board when the governor is still active, where there is an improvement direction. Thus far, it's still being corrected by us with consultants," he stated, at City Hall, Tuesday (7/8).

Cadgers in Monas to Be Relocated to Basement

He uttered that the DED and masterplan correction was predicted to finish about 2-3 months ahead. They were deliberately made in parallel thus it can be done quickly and constructed. "Its construction will be conducted next year because we must wait for the design first," he told.

The construction itself would be handed over to the Housing and Government Buildings Department. The Monas basement is planned to be equipped with parking lot, museum, as well as street vendors room.

He revealed the construction will use the advanced technology thus it will not disturb the Monas's monument construction. "Surely, we will maintain the Monas's monument," he expressed.

As planned, the width of Monas basement reaches half of the surface area. In addition under the monument, another basement would also be built in the silang Monas and IRTI. While fund for drafting masterplan is about Rp 500 million, while its construction will fully be covered by the City Budget (APBD).
