Schools in Jakarta Only Active on Monday-Friday, Basuki Says

Such decision was announced by Basuki when he held a meeting with Jakarta Education Department and school representatives. Thus, students will off on Saturday," he stated, at City Hall, Thursday (8/14).
He continued that each school was instructed to ensure the safety of students. The reason is the 2013 curriculum will increase the volume of the subjects and causes additional learning time. Moreover, students obligated to attend school at noon.
School Days Will Be Until Saturday Again"I want the class teacher pay more attention to the students if the school ends in the afternoon. According to him, such decision does not need to be notified to the Ministry of Education and Culture. Moreover, the determination of school hours is the right of local autonomy.
Head of Jakarta Education Department, Lasro Marbun added his department encourage schools to add the classroom which aims to abolish shift system in school. It is a long-term solution given to the school as a compensation from implementation of the 2013 curriculum.
Hence, he uttered, his party would firstly invite schools having two shifts system to socialize the policy. Later on, Marbun said, their school buildings will be made into four floors and automatically add the classroom. Those schools consist of 85 Vocational Schools (SMK), 26 Junior High School (SMP), 12 Senior High Schools (SMP), and 246 Elementary Schools (SD).
He added that with 2013 curriculum, learning time will be 35 hours per week for SD, 40 hours per week for SMP, 42 hours per week for SMA, and 45 hours per week for SMK.
