Ease access to get into Jakarta becomes the reason why newcomers are unstoppable
Head of Jakarta Population and Civil Register Department Community Development Division, Sapto Wibowo, admitted that his party is having trouble in controlling urbanization flow post Eid ul Fitr.
“Ease access to get into Jakarta becomes the reason why newcomers are unstoppable. This year the amount of newcomers increases 25 percent from last year when 54,000 newcomers came to Jakarta,” he stated, Friday (8/15).
Prevent Newcomers, Other Regions Must Be EmpoweredThe data was obtained from results of surveys done by Jakarta Population and Civil Register Department together with Demographic Institution of Economic Faculty of University of Indonesia (LDFE UI). The officers were recording the data of newcomers who entered the city through seaport, train stations, bus terminals, and airport.
According to Wibowo, in general there are three behavior characteristics of newcomers. The first is those who want to stay permanently in Jakarta, second is those who want to stay temporarily, and third is those who are mobile and come in and out of the city as they like.
“The most newcomers are the first one. They usually come from the nearest region closest to Jakarta. Generally, 50 percent of newcomers want to get a job in the city,” he uttered.
