Rp 400 Billion to Be Disbursed to Buy 100 Double-decker Buses

PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) as a city-owned enterprise (BUMD) is assigned by Jakarta Provincial Government to buy 100 double-decker buses as compensation to the implementation of Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system. To purchase those buses, city gives the company money as much Rp 400 billion which taken from the basic capital.

This is an assignment and we’re ready. This is a good breakthrough, especially from the governor and vice governor, that with ERP implementation there is compensation given to the public

PT Transjakarta President Directot, Antonius Kosasih, said that based on Bylaw No. 4/2014 about the formation of Transjakarta BUMD, his party gets basic capital from Jakarta Provincial Government for as much as Rp 350 billion and then gets fund injection in the same amount.

“It means that we now have capital as much as Rp 700 billion. From that amount, about Rp 400 billion would be use to buy buses. This is an assignment and we’re ready. This is a good breakthrough, especially from the governor and vice governor, that with ERP implementation there is compensation given to the public,” he stated, Saturday (8/16).

Free Double-decker Buses Prepared for ERP Lanes

Later, the operational of the double-decker buses will be fully subsidized. Thus, the residents would not need to pay when they onboard the bus. However, he refused if said this policy is only a bait to get the people, especially private vehicle users, shift to take mass public transports.

“This is not a bait. This is really is a means of mass transportation given by Jakarta Provincial Government to the people which fully subsidized. That’s why it’s free,” explained Kosasih.

In their operation, those double-decker buses will only serve short routes, so they will not disturb the trajectories of regular buses as well as TransJakarta buses. In addition, the double-decker buses will not pass on TransJakarta bus lanes, but only on slow lane just like any other regular public transports.

“If you wanted to onboard from Blok M to Kota, you better take TransJakarta bus, right, because you just need to onboard one time. But if you were from Kota Tua and heading to Olimo-Mangga Besar, that’s where we provide free buses,” he told.

According to Kosasih, at this time his party is still reviewing which routes suitable for the double-decker buses. Some of the routes discussed are Semanggi–Jalan Gatot Subroto–Senayan–Jl Asia Afrika–Senayan City–Jalan Jendral Sudirman–Semanggi and Casablanca–Sampurna Strategic–Semanggi–Jalan Gatot Subroto–Jalan Rasuna Said–Casablanca.

“However, those routes are not final yet. The purpose is to accommodate private vehicle users who cannot enter ERP lanes and take the double-decker free buses instead,” he uttered.
